Why did you choose the material you decided to work with? What was unexpected or challenging about it?
After looking on Pinterest, I decided it would be fun to work with vinyl records. I also knew they were cheap and abundant at GCF, so I could get a lot of materials for a relatively cheap price. I was surprised at how easy I was able to manipulate the records into any shape I wanted when I melted them. The most challenging part of this project was breaking the records into pieces.
What did you think about the experience of working with a material that was unfamiliar?
I liked being able to use this material to my advantage and be able to manipulate it the way I want by melting it, but i also liked the unpredictable aspect of when I cracked the records. I didn't know where on the record it would crack, and I like the effect it made.
Did you enjoy working with unconventional materials? Why or why not?
Working with unconventional materials is a very unique and enjoyable experience because I'm able to discover new horizons in my artistic abilities and new techniques that can help with other traditional art materials.
